CODERS Summer Launch 2024

We are proud to present the CODERS 2024 Summer Launch! This three-day event will introduce you to CODERS lessons, materials, and participants, and it will help you begin or continue to integrate computer science and coding education in your classroom. We are excited for you to be part of the journey to expand computer science and STEM opportunities to your students and school. Here are some important things to know before the Launch:

  • Location: Cheek Hall 151.
  • Parking: We will email you a parking pass. Print that, put it in your window, and park in any Yellow Lot.
  • New Attendees: Arrive at 8:15 (on day one only) to fill out paperwork and get your beginning materials.
  • What to Bring: On all three days, bring a laptop, phone, iPad, or tablet of any kind. On days two and three, bring a Micro:Bit, Cutebot, or Robot Dog. On day three, we encourage you to bring your principal, superintendent, or a colleague as a guest.

Summer PD 2024 launch agenda

Day 1

  • 8:30-9:00: Breakfast, photo, check address,
  • 9:00-9:30: Welcome, Housekeeping, Objectives, & Expectations
  • 9:30: Introduce presenter, Brandi Retasket from Hollister (Scratch Presentation and Group Activity)
  • 10:45-11:00: Break and Networking
  • 11:00-11:30: Reflection with Dr. Piccolo
  • 11:30: Move to the Union Club
  • 11:45-12:45: Lunch and Networking
  • 12:45: Move to your afternoon location. Teachers new to CODERS will go to Cheek Hall 151 with Dr. Iqbal (CODERS Bootcamp Presentation). Teachers from Cohort 2021, 2022, and 2023 will stay in the Union Club.
  • 1:00: New CODERS Boot Camp in Cheek Hall
  • 1:00: Stephanie Fuller, Exeter Middle School presenting on Scratch Applications (Circuitry, Electromagnetism, and Coding Presentation)
  • 2:00: Break and Networking
  • 2:25: Cohorts 2021, 2022, 2023

  • 2:45: Dr. Iqbal's New Teacher group will leave Cheek Hall and move to Union Club for a break and afternoon snack
  • 3:25-4:00: Cohort 2024 will move to the PSU Conference Room with Dr Davis and Dr. Homburg
  • 3:25-4:00: Cohorts 2021, 2022, 2023 will stay in the Union Club with Dr. Franklin to Write Your Pixar Story
  • 4:00: Return to the Union Club. `Reflecting and processing Day 1 and Preparing for Day 2
  • 4:30: Closing

Day 2

  • 8:00-9:00: Breakfast and Networking
  • 9:00-9:30: Welcome, Housekeeping, Revisit Feedback
  • 9:30: Introduce presenter, Jennifer Jackson from Logan-Rogersville Elementary (Introduction to Microbit Presentation and Lesson Plan)
  • 10:45-11:00: Break and Networking
  • 11:00-11:30: Reflection with Dr. Piccolo
  • 11:30: Move to the Union Club
  • 11:45-12:45: Lunch and Networking
  • 12:45: Move to your afternoon location. Teachers new to CODERS will go to Cheek Hall 151 with Dr. Iqbal. Teachers from Cohort 2021, 2022, and 2023 will stay in the Union Club.
  • 1:00: New CODERS Boot Camp in Cheek Hall (CODERS Bootcamp Presentation). Return by 2:45 to the Union Club
  • 1:00: Yolanda Salas, Waynesville Elementary in the Union Club and Shell Knob team (Family Involvement with Microbit Presentation)
  • 2:00: Break and Networking
  • 2:25-2:40: Cohorts 2021, 2022, 2023

  • 2:35: Dr. Iqbal’s New Teacher group will leave Cheek Hall and move to Union Club for a break and afternoon snack

  • 9:30: Introduce presenters Abbi Coy, Purdy Middle School, and Mary Hepler from Clever Middle School (Career Connections Presentation and XGO Robot Dog Presentation)
  • 10:45-11:00: Break and Networking
  • 11:00-11:30: Supplies
  • 11:30: Move to the Union Club
  • 11:45-12:45: Lunch and Networking
  • 12:45: Move to your afternoon location.
  • 1:00-2:00: Linking Cubes (Computational Thinking Lesson Activity 1 and Activity 2)
  • 2:00-2:30: Break and Networking
  • 2:30-3:00: CODERS Kit Ordering with Dr. Davis
  • 3:00-3:35: Looking ahead in the summer and the year with Dr. Davis, Dr. Homburg, and Dr. Franklin
  • 3:35-4:10: Input from Teachers
  • 4:10-4:30: Graduation and Closing

Finally, review these important reminders about your participation in the CODERS project and submit your timesheet to Dr. Piccolo.
