Teaching in the Age of AI: 2.0

NWP MIDWEST TEACHER INITIATIVE 2025–2026

In partnership with the National Writing Project's Midwest Teacher Initiative 2025-2026, the Ozarks Writing Project is partnering for Year 2 of this initiative to continue a focus on Large Language Models. Year 1 provided opportunities for individual explorations and collaborative sessions within and among National Writing Project sites. The fast-paced, ever-changing field of artificial intelligence is spreading across our lives in a global society. Regardless of your views, we are teaching in the age of AI. For this reason, the NWP Midwest Teacher Initiative is continuing its focus on this transformational time.
Teaching can be an isolating profession, yet we know we do our best work when we are in community with other committed educators who can both support and push us. As a member of the National Writing Project, we invite you to join other NWP teachers throughout the Midwest in a yearlong exploration of what it means to each of us to be teaching in the age of AI.

At our sites, we will gather regularly to support inquiry projects and reflection as a means to explore, share practices, and discuss concerns and successes. We will also gather across our sites to expand our network and knowledge. Three Zoom meetings will be held from 6:30-8:00 PM CST on the first Wednesdays: December 3, February 4, and April 1. Though there are multiple venues to go public with our practices, findings, and questions, and these will be shared throughout our sessions, all are encouraged to submit a proposal for the fourth annual Teaching Writing in the Age of ChatGPT: Summer Symposium in Madison, WI.

This year’s NWP Midwest Teacher Initiative is open to those who participated last year and those who want to begin this year. We hope you will join us in this year’s professional learning.
